Podocarpus elatus (Plum Pine) is a hardy, evergreen tree prized for its dense, dark green foliage and attractive, edible purple fruit. This slow-growing Australian native is highly valued for its ornamental appeal, making it a great choice for hedging, screening, or as a feature tree in larger landscapes. It has a conical to spreading habit and thrives in a range of soil types, including sandy and clay soils.
Well-suited to coastal and subtropical climates, Podocarpus elatus is tolerant of salt spray and drought once established. Its fruit, known as Illawarra plum, is edible and often used in jams and sauces. This low-maintenance tree is ideal for creating shade and attracting wildlife.
